
The 2016 NZCT AIMS Games indoor bowls pairs champions were found at the Baypark Stadium Lounge today following another two days of intense competition. From a field of 126 teams, representing 28 schools from around the North Island, 46 teams qualified for post-section play.
In the semifinals, Te Huaki Kurei and Jamie McLean from Opotiki Primary School beat Georgia Anderson and Briar Keaney (Somerville Intermediate) 1-6, 4-2, 4-1 while Jayerion Te Ahu Ahu and Philemon Saulala from Ilminster Intermediate beat teammates Fiona Rangiuaia and Sian Williams 8-2, 5-5.
In the final, Te Huaki and Jamie took a 7-0 lead over Jayerion & Philemon in the first set before conceding four shots to make the final score 7-4. The second set was a much closer affair, with Te Huaki and Jamie scoring one shot on each of the first three ends to lead 3-0 going into the final end. However, Jayerion and Philemon only managed to score two shots to make the final score 3-2.
In a play off for third and fourth, Fiona and Sian came out on top winning 5-4 and 8-1.
