Table tennis finalists found

The NZCT AIMS Games table tennis title contenders have been found for Friday’s finals.
In the boys draw, Takapuna Normal – featuring Gavin Ding, Sunny Ang and Daniel Ottenhoff – will face the might of Wairau Intermediate, comprising Nathan Xu, Yu Yang Sun and Thomas Liang.
Both teams proved too strong for their semifinal opposition. The third-place play-off will be between Bucklands Beach Intermediate (Heymans Lo, Abhinav Shawla, Ray Wang and Anthony Zheng) and Somerville Intermediate (Hao Sha, Mervyn Tan, Tony Huang and Simon Bargh).
In the girls final, Somerville Intermediate – comprising Annie Chen, Amelia Loh, Sophie Forgie and Aarohi Karandikar – plays surprise finalists, Pongakawa.  The small rural Bay of Plenty school will be represented by Kelly Currin, Chelsea Garner and Shyla Dawson, while Mount Maunganui and Tauranga Intermediate will battle for the minor spots.
The boys fifth and sixth playoffs sere hotly contested between Palmerston North Boys and Otumoetai, which featured a contender for match of the day.  It went right down to the wire, until Drew Tilsley and Alex Freeman combined to win the deciding doubles for Otumoetai. Tauranga Intermediate and Te Puna battled it out for seventh and eighth, with Tauranga triumphant.
Te Puna took out the girls plate from Otumoetai Intermediate, while Tauranga 3 beat Mount Maunganui 1 for the boys plate, and Papamoa 1 won the consolation.
