The 2016 NZCT AIMS Games indoor bowls singles champion was found at ASB Baypark Arena today, following two days of intense competition.  From a field of 250, representing 28 schools from around the North Island, 88 players qualified for post-section play.
In the semifinals, Ethan Hill (Somerville Intermediate) beat Sa Leaupepe from Papatoetoe’s Holy Cross School and Ilminster’s Dylan Anderson defeated his teammate Wade Brunt.
The final saw the first set drawn, after Anderson came from 1-4 down to score three shots and level the scores 4-all on the last end.
The second set saw Hill take another 4-1 lead going into the last end but he held his advantage by drawing second shot and placing his bowl in a position where Anderson was unable to remove to score more than one shot.
The gold medal, therefore, went to Hill, silver to Anderson and, after a play off, Brunt took bronze.
It was sweet success for Hill, a competitor here last year who qualified for section play but went out in the first round.

GOLD MEDAL:  Ethan Hill (Somerville Intermediate)
SILVER MEDAL: Dylan Anderson (Ilminster Intermediate)
BRONZE MEDAL:  Wade Brunt (Ilminster Intermediate)
